stranded in the fog of words.
I finally finished my skirt last weekend, and this is the end result! I'm really happy with it. It's girly and twirly and lovely to wear. It took quite some time to make as I was on limited sewing time across the school term, and for some reason the holidays were rather hectic as well. But, I've finally finished, and I've learnt some valuable skills along the way. I'm not a bona-fide zipper and pocket skirt-inserter!
I decided to take some photos of myself wearing it for you, and I just couldn't help but spin around in front of the camera. I kind of like the blurred effect that the spinning created, it really shows the movement and excitement I was feeling at having finally finished the skirt. And yes, as you can see, I still haven't quite got the hang of hiding the remote as I take photos ;)
I've been extraordinarily busy lately, and I will be for the next three or four months, but I'll still be around, don't worry! I noticed that I've lost a couple of followers, which I've put down to the fact that I just haven't had much of an online presence lately. Trust me, I've still been catching up with your blogs and enjoying them, I just don't have the time to comment a lot of the time. Even if I don't get the chance to reply to your comment, rest assured, I'll check out your blog, and if I love it (which I usually do...) I'll make an extra big effort to let you know!
Tomorrow I have to fit in two days worth of study, as on Sunday I'm off to the Mother's Day Classic, followed by the Suitcase Rummage, and finally a picnic for my friend's birthday in the afternoon. So once I get through tomorrow I have a lovely day of rest from schoolwork, which will be much appreciated, let me assure you!
Anyway, I feel like I'm boring you with useless information about my life, so I'll leave it at that, and let the photos do the talking.
I hope you're having a beautiful and slightly less stressful week than me!

skirt slash patterns.
Haaay guys,
Sorry I've been so sporadic with my updates, I'm getting on here as much as I can with grade twelve and everything going on!
The top five photos show what I'm working on at the moment, my calf-length, checked (in the magazine they've made it out of tweed), full-skirt. I've been busy with schoolwork, so it's a slow process, but last weekend I sewed all the pieces together, and added one of the pockets. Hopefully this afternoon, and if not, then definitely tomorrow, I'll be able to get a bit more done on it, and put up some more photos to give you a better idea of how it's going. I got a little excited at the prospect of having sewn a pocket, as I've never done that before, so that's my excuse for the pocket photos, haha :)
While I was working on my skirt, my mum went though some of her old patterns. Sadly she's thrown out a heap of them over the years, but there are still some pretty fantastic retro patterns. Most of them are in size's too big for me, but there are one or two that are all sizes, and I think a couple of the pieces will translate well as oversized-style clothes. I really love the short-sleeved dress in the top pattern photo, and the bottom pattern; I think the big bows are really cute ♥

I made this bag yesterday! It was really, really, easy, my mum got the pattern from a friend, but not the instructions. But, I still managed to figure it out, which, given my still-quite-beginner-level sewing skills, is saying something!
I absolutely adore the fabric. It took me a good half an hour looking around the fabric shop to choose the exterior fabric, I'm quite picky, haha. You can't see the lining, but its just black with thin white stripes, pretty simple.
It's a great shape because you can just sling it over you shoulder, and the strap is really comfy. So, it should be a good addition to my bag-wardrobe :D
Now I'm off to trace out pattern pieces for my next two projects! One's a calf-length full-skirt that will be made out black and white gingham, and the other is the schoolhouse tunic pattern I bought the other day. I'm planning to make two of it, one plain and one patterned!

hippy headband.
I made this yesterday, and wore it today. The instructions were from the PS I Made This book, as you can see in the photos above, and all up, I'd estimate it took less than an hour to cut and make the flowers, plait the ribbon, and attach it all together.
And, here is the fabric we got in the mail the other day! The top two photos are 'Wee Woodlands' by Keiki for Moda, and the bottom three are Robert Kaufman 'Remix' & 'Urban Zoologie'. As for what I'm going to do with them, the plan at the moment is to make a small quilt, and some bunting to decorate my room, but I haven't decided which will be used for what yet...
In other crafty news, I also bought some fabric today to make another bag we've got a pattern for at home, and a 'schoolhouse tunic' pattern, which I still need to get fabric for, but that may have to wait until the flood water has gone down and I can get to the fabric shop in the city!

finished.
I finished my bag last night, so here's the finished product. I'm really quite pleased because it fufills all of my requirements of a bag;
- Big enough for all my junk, but not too big that it gets heavy.
- Comfy straps, I hate holding a bag in my hands.
- Theft-proof, because it goes in at the top.
- And, of course, it has to look good.
YAAAY.

PS, I'm trying to teach my mother how to take photos of me, because self-timer is irritating... how do you think she's going?
Here's a sneak-peek of the bag I'm currently working on! I've just got the lining to go, so I'm hoping to get it finished, if not tomorrow, then Tuesday. It's from an Amy Butler pattern, although the actual pattern is quite old, as mum and I bought it a few years ago with the intention of making a bag each. Life got in the way, but we remembered it the other week :)
I took a bunch of photos of my cat and my old knitted (by my mum and grnadma!) toys as well, but they wouldn't load, which is probably lucky for you, I'm sure you're getting sick of looking at my cat, haha. But I'm terrified of taking my camera outside while the weathers so horrid, so for now she's the most interesting thing around my house, so she'll have to do :D
But I promise some interesting photos as soon as the rain stops!
xx
